Projektbeschreibung

Der Fortpflanzungserfolg von Individuen wird nicht nur durch den erfolgreichen Zugang zu Paarungspartnern bestimmt, sondern maßgeblich auch durch Vorgänge, die während oder nach der Verpaarung stattfinden. Entsprechend vielfältig ist die Morphologie der Geschlechtsorgane beider Geschlechter im Tierreich. Wir untersuchen den evolutionsbiologischen Hintergrund der Diversität von Geschlechtsorganen und die Funktion der beteiligten Strukturen im Kontext der sexuellen und natürlichen Selektion. Insbesondere interessieren uns die Komplexität von Kopulationsmechanismen, die sensorische Ausstattung der Kopulationsorgane, der Aufbau der Spermienspeicherungsorgane im Weibchen und deren Möglichkeiten zur Spermienmanipulation, die Entstehung und Funktion von Paarungspropfen sowie die damit einhergehenden Partnerwahlkriterien beider Geschlechter.
