Laura Tensen did her PhD at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, focussing on the conservation genetics of African wild dogs. She has since moved to Germany and Denmark for two postdocs, and recently started a new position as assistant professor in the  Applied Zoology and Nature Conservation group at the Zoological Institute and Museum. Her research mainly focusses on the interface between carnivore ecology and landscape genomics, with a particular interest in identifying the effects of anthropogenic stresses such as hunting and habitat loss. She also aims to provide a better understanding of adaptive genetic variation in the wild, including the extent to which observed changes are due to heterozygote deficiency or selective drivers.
