Forschungsinteressen

Formen von Genitalien sind sehr vielfältig, sodass diese bei verschiedenen Tiergruppen für Artenbestimmungen gut verwendet werden können. Ich möchte klären, wie Unterschiede zwischen nah verwandten Arten in ihrer Evolution entstehen und sich bewahren, und deswegen beschäftige ich mich mit evolutionärer Morphologie, Funktionsmorphologie & Biomechanik der Genitalien besonders bei Insekten (und bald auch bei Spinnen).  Einer meiner Forschungsschwerpunkte ist die Ko-Evolution von männlichen und weiblichen Genitalien mit einem besonderen Fokus auf verlängerte Genitalien. In verschiedenen Gruppen, nicht nur bei Insekten, sondern auch bei Spinnen, gibt es Arten mit verlängerten Genitalien. Deren Länge kann bei einigen Arten viel länger als ihr Köper sein. Der Ursprung und teilweise die Funktion der verlängerten Genitalien bei Männchen variieren von Gruppe zu Gruppe.  Ich untersuche bei verschiedenen Gruppen, wie die verlängerte Genitalien beim Geschlechtsverkehr funktionieren und sich bewegen, was für wesentliche Rollen die morphologischen und mechanischen Eigenschaften der Genitalien dabei spielen, und warum jede Art eigene morphologische und mechanische Eigenschaften der Genitalien hat (warum müssen solche Eigenschaften artenspezifisch sein). Daneben interessiere ich mich für Systematik und Taxonomie von Blattkäfern und Bodenläusen, mit denen ich mich schon lange beschäftige.
