Michael Schmitt, Associate Professor of Zoology (retired), was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award for 2021 by the International Society of Zoological Sciences at the 23rd International Congress of Zoology. With this award, the Society recognises his scientific achievements in the fields of coleopterology, phylogenetics and history of science. He also received the award in recognition of his services to the founding of the Society in the years 2000 to 2004 and for his dedicated work on its Board from 2004 to 2008.
