Research interests
I am fascinated by the olfactory neurobiology of arthropods. During my Master project, I characterized the projection pathway of antennal sensory neurons in the central nervous system of a semi-aquatic bug using different staining methods in combination with the Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope.
For my doctoral thesis, I am working on the ultrastructural analysis of spiders´ chemosensory sensilla to explore how and where the spider perceive chemical cues or signals. I am conducting a combination of novel re-ss (re-sectioning serial section) Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) methods, and behavioral experiments to answer fundamental questions about the chemical sense of spiders.
