Animal Ecology

Our research is aimed towards the recognition of basic regularities in food webs and a mechanistic understanding of the structure and function of food webs and their communities, with a focus on the primary producer–consumer and benthic–pelagic interface, including temperature and food quality aspects, life history traits, and genetic variability. Emphasis is also placed on particular substances in chemical and biochemical assays and a comprehensive statistical analysis of the sampled data. Especially through the combination and interplay of field research, laboratory experiments and modeling we tackle these objectives and develop general ecological concepts.
