Pomeranian Collection

Nature lovers will notice the wealth of birdlife practically at every turn on their forays through Western Pomerania. But how can you be sure whether the bird of prey you have just seen is actually the white-tailed eagle you would so like to see? Our collection of native birds, the "Pomeranian collection", can help answer these and many other questions.

The majority of exhibits in the collection were created in the first half of the 19th century. The history of its creation is also an important part of the history of our institute and museum. Following these historical traces leads back to renowned ornithologists of that time, such as the “bird priest” Christian Ludwig Brehm and his student and friend Wilhelm Schilling, the museum's curator at the time...

In addition to freshly acquired bird species knowledge and lively local history: After your visit, you can be sure to have experienced “the largest, best and most species-rich collection of Pomeranian birds” (which is not self-praise, but was judged so by an expert on the subject, the amateur ornithologist Franz Koske, in 1919)!
