The Public collection is the section of the museum that is open to the public. It primarily serves as a teaching and demonstration collection for Biology students. In contrast to the more specialised public museums, visitors will find hardly any accompanying texts for independent information and orientation. For this reason, our public collection is only accessible via guided tours by a museum employee.

Hundreds of animal specimens in over 60 display cases illustrate the diversity of the animal kingdom. The exhibition follows the natural system of animals from unicellular organisms to mammals. Not every specimen is a "stuffed" bird or mammal. Instead, the entire diversity of zoological preparations can be experienced: dried skins, specimens preserved in liquids, skeletons or parts of skeletons, individual organs, miniature dioramas, animal models... The "Pomeranian Collection", the most complete collection of bird species in our region, can also be found here.

Guided tours for the public will once again take place on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 pm from spring 2025. In addition, we offer guided tours primarily for groups (school classes, study groups, travel groups, etc.) and, in exceptional cases, for individuals. Due to the limited space available, groups should not exceed 20 people. The duration and - if desired - the specific topic of the guided tour will be coordinated together with you.

Please note that the Public collection unfortunately does not yet have barrier-free access.
