During the 4th DigiTechPort2030 Partner Meeting in Karlshamm, Sweden, partners and participants reviewed the project’s second-year progress, discussed strategies for the Workpackage 2 with a focus on the development of the Green Compass and pilot activities, and assessed the current status of the  Workpackage 3. The agenda also included interactive sessions and workshops with external stakeholders.

One of the prominent sessions was devoted to the Pillars discussions. Pillar A focused on Legal and IMO/EU compliance, while Pillar B addressed technical and digital innovations for decarbonization. During these sessions, valuable insights were shared by prominent scholars, researchers, and scientists. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss current challenges in the maritime industry and explore future perspectives on decarbonization. The first day concluded with a productive session dedicated to resolving communication issues and aligning partners on coordination and technical matters.

During the second day the team visited Port of Karlshamn. The partner meeting included a comprehensive study visit to the Port of Karlshamn, one of Sweden’s largest and the deepest port in the southeast, serving as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region. Hosted by Caroline Säfström (CEO) and Pär Carlsson (Operations Manager/Marketing Manager) of KARLSHAMNS HAMN AB, the visit showcased the port’s advanced digital infrastructure, decarbonization initiatives, and multimodal capabilities. With six port areas, 3 km of quay, and 750,000 m² of surface area, the port handles approximately 8 million tonnes of cargo and 2,200 vessels annually, including HandySize, small PanaMax, and tankers up to 100,000 deadwigth tonnage. The visit highlighted innovations in electrification, biogas infrastructure, and digital twin applications, aligning with DigiTechPort2030’s mission to support small and medium-sized ports (SMSPs) in achieving sustainable, technology-driven operations in the South Baltic region. "The tour of the habour gave us a greater understanding of the needs of the ports and will bring DigiTechPort2030 on another level", says Elizaveta Diatlova, Project Manager and research associate at the European Project Center at Hochschule Wismar.
