Dr.-Ing. Lena Cibulski, postdoctoral researcher at the Chair for Visual Analytics, has been awarded an Honorable Mention at the VRVis Visual Computing Award 2025 in recognition of her PhD research. This award honors outstanding applied visual computing research in Europe that contributes to sustainable development. It is presented every two years by the VRVis GmbH based on the recommendation of an international jury.

Lena Cibulski’s research focuses on visualization-based decision support, enabling experts in industrial applications to balance ecological sustainability with economic considerations. Her work transforms potential conflicts into opportunities for compromise by making trade-offs transparent and actionable. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, she bridges the gap between data-centered optimization and human judgment. Her research addresses a crucial gap in the field: the lack of validated visualization tools designed to support expert decision-making in complex, real-world scenarios. By introducing novel theoretical, methodological, and technical contributions, Lena Cibulski’s research work brings a new emphasis on decision-making processes that were previously underrepresented in applied visualization research.
