Long Night of Science

On Thursday evening, numerous visitors flocked to the Long Night of Sciences at the Department of Life, Light & Matter (LL&M) research building, located at Albert-Einstein-Straße 25. Under the motto “Experience Science”, the building offered a diverse program featuring interactive exhibits, fascinating lectures, and guided tours through cutting-edge laboratories.

In the foyer, guests explored hands-on stations ranging from 3D shadow structures and next-generation biomedical implants to traffic navigation games based on mathematical game theory and modern laser-based 3D printing techniques. The Jugend forscht competition also introduced itself with engaging displays.

A lecture series in the seminar room addressed socially relevant topics under the theme “Fair Resource Distribution and Voting Systems”, covering mathematical principles of fairness, chaos theory in climate research, and the mathematics of democratic elections.

The lab tours proved especially popular: Visitors were granted unique insights into state-of-the-art technologies, including NMR solid-state spectroscopy, particle analysis, and electron microscopy – all enabling the visualization of structures at the atomic scale.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback and high attendance are a strong motivation for the LL&M team to participate again next year – with fresh topics and new perspectives on cutting-edge research.
