FORGE 2025

In September 2025, the University of Rostock warmly invites all stakeholders from academia, data infrastructure, and research to engage with the current challenges and perspectives surrounding humanities research data. Under the motto "Daten neu denken" ("Re-thinking Data"),  the focus will be on how research data in the humanities can be approached and utilized in new ways.

Following successful events in Cologne (FORGE 2021, "Mapping the Landscape") and Tübingen (FORGE 2023, "Anything goes? Forschungsdaten in den Geisteswissenschaften – kritisch betrachtet"), FORGE 2025 continues this tradition. The conference builds upon the foundations laid by earlier conferences—FORGE 2015 from the project "Geisteswissenschaftliche Infrastruktur für Nachhaltigkeit" at the University of Hamburg and "Jenseits der Daten – Nachhaltigkeit für Forschungsanwendungen und Software" in 2016. (For more background on FORGE, visit the DHd blog.)

The conference is organized this year by the Working Group for Humanities Research Data Management (AG fdmGW) of the Association for Digital Humanities in German-speaking countries (DHd), the Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities, the University Library of Rostock, the Department "Wissen – Kultur – Transformation" (WKT) at the Interdisciplinary Faculty of the University of Rostock, and the Rostock Working Group Digital Humanities (RosDH).
