Friday, 17 January 2025, saw the festive opening of the touring exhibition “Viking Gold. Treasure Politics since 1800” at the Muzeum Archeologiczno-Historyczne in Elbląg, Poland. The exhibition presents the results of a joint project between the Stralsund Museum and the IFZO (“Fragmented transformations”, sub-project “Viking Gold: Treasure Finds as Translocal Heritage”, 2021–25), led by Professor Isabelle Dolezalek

Whereas the exhibition has been available digitally (www.vikinggold.org) since November 2024, it is now on display as a touring exhibition for the first time in Elbląg, where it will stay until 11 March. Afterwards, it will go on tour around the Baltic Sea and can be visited in Borre (Norway), Visby (Sweden) and Greifswald. Updated information about the tour will follow on the page www.vikinggold.org and on the exhibition’s Instagram channel @vikinggold_treasurepolitics.

The exhibition opening – accompanied by golden appetisers and a ‘real’ Viking – proved an enjoyable and interactive event for both the curators, the museum colleagues and the numerous visitors.
