100 Years of Quantum Theory: A Year of Science and Art in Rostock

Rostock Celebrates 100 Years of Quantum Theory with an Interdisciplinary Yearlong Program

In 2025, the birth of quantum theory marks its 100th anniversary – a milestone that will be celebrated in Rostock with an extensive program of scientific and cultural events. Under the patronage of the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, the Institute of Physics at the University of Rostock, together with numerous partner institutions, invites the public to a wide range of events.

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) offers fascinating insights into the world of quantum physics. Science, art, and society come together to explore the groundbreaking discoveries of this field from various perspectives.

Highlights of the Program:

  • Physics Day 2025 (March 4): The Institute of Physics opens its doors to students, offering laboratory tours, lectures, and experiments to experience quantum physics firsthand.
  • World Quantum Day (April 14): An interdisciplinary art exhibition at three locations in Rostock showcases the intersection of art and quantum mechanics.
  • Long Night of Science (May 15): A captivating program featuring live experiments, lectures, and interactive quantum physics presentations.
  • International Day of Light (May 16): The magic of light becomes tangible through film, art, and science.
